Sexual abuse of children is a topic that is still taboo in India. Yet, according to a 2007 study by the Indian government, every second child is being subjected to one or more forms of sexual abuse. Across the country, every fifth child faces severe sexual assault like rape and sodomy. Contrary to general perception, boys are more likely to be abused than girls. Sexual violence is commonly perpetrated by someone known to the child. Most children do not report the matter to anyone. Often children do not even realize that they are being abused. A conspiracy of silence prevails around the issue which tacitly encourages abuse.
Joseph Stalin once said "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." This project is an attempt to not let the multitude of survivors fade away as mere statistics. I hope to eventually develop an interactive platform that will provide young parents with information on sexual abuse of children so that the mistakes of previous generations are not repeated.
