Smell Forward is a fictional exploration by Priscille Jotzu, as part of her M.A. design research, "that focuses on the sense of smell to offer new interaction possibilities and challenge the contemporary movement towards digitalisation and dematerialisation" (Jotzu, 2018). I collaborated with Priscille to visualise her critical design project that uses olfaction to speculate about possible futures. The resultant photographs were used in various publications to illustrate the project.

My master thesis attempted to answer the research question, "How to interest design students in critical thinking?" As an outcome of the research I developed a tool, delivered as a modular and flexible coursework. The theoretical framework of the tool is a manifesto. It is housed along with exemplars of six modules in a thesis-tool hybrid. The hybrid takes the form of a 214 page book which can be read from both front and back. Printed on Lessebo 1.3 Rough Ivory 100 g/m2 paper at OK Digitaldruck AG, Zürich. Bookbinding by Christa Wyss from Buchbekleidung an der Limmat. Typeset in Calluna and P22 Underground. The book was photographed using ambient sunlight.
